Are you afraid of success?
Are you subconsciously afraid to succeed?
I know this sounds ridiculous on the surface – but take a second and think about it.
We talk a lot about our fear of failure – and we easily understand WHY we might be afraid of failing, right? We don’t want to bring attention to ourselves; don’t want for people to see us fail; we worry what others might think.
We make failure mean WE are failures and not competent – when in reality, failure is a necessity for success.
On some level though, I think we fear what success looks like too. What will have to change? How will I need to show up differently? What will people think?
So many questions can come up when you look at what will be necessary to achieve your goals.
Because change IS change, whether it’s for better or worse. And most of us don’t like change, we don’t like the uncertainty that comes with not knowing what our “new normal” will look like.
We get COMFORTABLE with being UNCOMFORTABLE. The big difference between the discomfort of your current situation and the change that is necessary is that you KNOW this discomfort.
You know what it feels like to be overweight. To not make yourself a priority. To emotionally eat.
And with these goals we’ve set for ourselves – most of us are stepping out of our comfort zones BIG TIME to achieve them. And it’s UNCOMFORTABLE in a way that’s new to us!
But here’s the good news – you KNOW how to feel uncomfortable – you experience it every time you decide to start a new diet/exercise plan and then abandon it. You experience it each time you emotionally overeat and then beat yourself up for not being able to “pull it together”.
So you can move forward on this journey KNOWING that when you feel uncomfortable with trying new workouts, honoring your body’s hunger cues, putting yourself at the top of the “to do” list – you’ve GOT THIS EMOTION!! You already know how to feel it – been there done that, right?
Only THIS time – the discomfort is going to grow you in a way you could NEVER imagine. You are going to feel brave, inspired, like a ROCKSTAR!
When you decide you are willing to take a chance at trying a new workout class – you are going to feel stronger!
When you choose to feel your feelings on a stressful day instead of eating them – you are going to realize you CAN do this!
When you decide that your goals and dreams are WORTH your time – you are going to make yourself a priority.
Still feel a little worried about how all of this change will look?
Take it one step at a time. Trust that God will equip you with everything you’ll need along this journey.
You don’t have to worry about how to get from A to Z right now. Just take the steps from A to B. Then B to C.
Each step builds on itself – and a year from now – you will be blown away by how addicted you are to growth and success. 😉
