What are you indulging in?
That could be a loaded question, right?
Indulgence has different definitions to different people – it could mean extravagant or decadent – but it could also mean excessive, right?
So when I ask what you are indulging in – what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
I know for many – it might be food – cookies, cakes and pies, OH MY! 😉
But what if I asked what EMOTIONS are you indulging in?
On a daily basis – what are your top 3 emotions?
Really take a couple of minutes and think about what your “go-to” emotions are.
Are they fear, anger, stress, overwhelm, doubt, scarcity?
Or joy, peace, determination, gratitude, abundance?
Do you fully recognize that these emotions are a CHOICE?
That you get to choose HOW you want to show up and react to ANY situation in your life?
Fear, anger, stress, overwhelm, doubt and scarcity are not emotions that just HAPPEN to you – you choose them.
Just as there is no destination or goal that will lead you to joy, peace, determination, gratitude, and abundance – you choose those too.
So what’s my purpose for pointing this out to you?
WELL – if emotional eating is an issue for you – I’m assuming that one of these indulgent emotions is what you are trying to distract yourself from feeling, right?
So recognizing that you are in control of your emotions is kind of a big step in realizing that you don’t have to distract yourself from this big, bad monster feeling – you could literally take the time to figure out WHY you keep choosing this emotion and then CHANGE it!
Sound too good to be true?
I get it…it’s kind of mind-blowing, right?
And in the beginning – this realization tore my heart right in two to know that I was CHOOSING this pain for myself – WHY in the HELL would I do that?
But that’s when we learn to forgive ourselves for what we use to do when we didn’t know better.
We CHOOSE to give ourselves a really big hug, apologize for the pain we’ve inflicted on ourselves, and pinky promise to do whatever is necessary to move forward and CHOOSE a different way.
I love the quote by Maya Angelou that says when “you know better, you do better”.
So today is your day – to learn, grow and try a different way.
To own your emotions and own your ability to change them.
To show up for life in a way that you enjoy.
To stop choosing to distract yourself from your feelings.
To take control over your thoughts and emotions.
To forgive yourself.
To love yourself.
To indulge in emotions that motivate and inspire you to live your life to its fullest!
