Modifications and being “good enough”

Do you struggle when you are trying out a new workout plan or fitness class and you aren’t able to do the exercise as shown?

What do you tell yourself when you have to modify the exercise move?

Do you beat yourself up?

Or do you decide that what you are doing is GOOD ENOUGH?

Cause let me tell you – the decision is all yours!

You can allow those thoughts of defeat to swirl around your head and leave you feeling dejected and “less than”.

Or you can look at the EXACT same situation and decide that you are doing the best you can and that your body is WORTHY of being listened to and honored.

Same scenario – different thoughts.

It’s time to take ownership of your thoughts.

It’s time to stop being the reason why you feel unmotivated and not “good enough”.

And I understand – society (or your mom, friend, spouse, you fill in the blank) could be backing up those defeating thoughts you tell yourself.

But guess what? Their thoughts have NOTHING to do with you and EVERYTHING to do with the cycle of negativity that is on repeat in their OWN head!

So if there is one (ok, two) things that you walk away with after reading this post today – please let them be this:

1) You are GOOD ENOUGH – everything about you in this very moment is EXACTLY as it should be. God has a purpose and plan for your life and He will use you in an AMAZING and PERFECT way! (don’t believe me? Tell yourself this truth every day for the next six months and then get back to me!)

2) What others think about you has NOTHING to do with you. I know this one can be as hard to believe as #1 is – but it’s true. And the only reason you “believe” what they are saying as truth – is because deep down inside – you already think the same way about yourself. (please read that last line again and let your mind marinate on it)

So what exactly does all of this have to do with making modifications to an exercise move?

Pretty much everything! 🙂

Think about it for a second – imagine you are working out (really imagine it – you are with your personal trainer, in a yoga class, or following a workout dvd at home) – and there’s a couple of moves that you just can’t physically do at this point.

Imagine if you modified that move with the loving thoughts of being ENOUGH and honoring your body in a way that feels GOOD. And NOT worrying AT ALL about what someone else may be thinking or saying.

IMAGINE

Couldn’t that begin the work to changing your whole perception of yourself and your body?

Would that not motivate you to want to move your body more?

To listen to your body’s feedback and make decisions based off of what was BEST for you? Instead of what would make you “feel” good enough?

Cause the truth of the matter my friend – is NOTHING you DO will make you FEEL good enough.

The feelings you desire of love, acceptance, and worth will come to you when you OWN the fact that you are – already – enough.
