Please get back up

There will be times on your journey that you fall – you trip – you faceplant. No matter what goals you have set for yourself, whether its weight loss, to have a healthy relationship with food, to run a half marathon, try a new workout – whatever it is – you WILL “fail” at some point.

Please get back up.

Failure is a part of life – unfortunately we’ve made it mean that WE are failures and incapable of reaching our goals. That we suck – and we shouldn’t even try. Please don’t choose these thoughts (and YES – they are a choice). I’ve failed more times than I can count along my journey to a healthy Amy. I’ve tried everything under the sun – a lot of shortcuts that just didn’t work – but I would’ve never known if I didn’t try.

Failure means that you ARE trying – you are SHOWING up – you are CHASING dreams and willing to do whatever is necessary to reach them. Failure shows up as our teacher – it teaches us what doesn’t work or what might need to be tweaked.

We get to give whatever meaning we want to failure – ask any successful person in this world and they see failure as a positive in their lives. It means they are not playing it safe, they are not scared of the “feeling of failure” – they know that they are capable of getting up, brushing it off, LEARNING from it and moving forward.

The one thing that may be keeping you from reaching your goal is how you choose to view your “failures”. Your willingness to be open to this experience, to learn, to fail can be the very thing that helps you realize your dream. Every time you get back up, every time you try again – you get THAT much closer to your goal. Each one of those “fails” serves a very important purpose in your journey.

Don’t give up, keep moving forward.

The world needs you – YOU need you. Each time you dust yourself off and try again – you uncover another layer of your truth. Chances are you will uncover many layers along this journey. And each time – you will have the choice as to how you define that experience.

I choose to believe that each day we have on this earth is another opportunity to learn and grow – that none of our experiences are mistakes – that they are meant to happen EXACTLY as they do – to bring us to where we need to be.

Please get back up.

I’ve been listening to Brooke’s podcasts and all I can say is wow. I think I’ve learned more about myself/my thoughts in the last 24 hours after speaking with Amy and listening to Brooke than I have my entire life. I am absolutely in awe at what I’ve learned and cannot express how excited and relieved I am to realize that I’m in control of my feelings because I can change the way I think! This is so empowering! I decided last night to start journaling … and boy did I really go at it. I wrote until my hand cramped, took a break, and wrote some more. I was so afraid I’d forget everything I learned yesterday and all the thoughts I had, so I had to put them on paper! I just had to share a few things that are still replaying in my head:
    1) The only problem food can fix is hunger. (THANK YOU AMY!)
    2) Every single feeling I have is a choice.
    3) If I’m not failing, I’m not reaching outside of my comfort zone enough to ever grow! I will redefine what failure means to me, and I will actually strive to fail a few times a month! Just look at how I’m increasing my odds of being successful?! And when I change my mindset to expect to fail 3 times a month, instead of beating myself up over a failure, it’s just something to check off the list! One failure down, two to go!
    4) “Want” from a place of abundance, not a place of need! When we’re asked to list things that we want in life, we ALWAYS list things we don’t have! I want a loving man and a healthy marriage. Guess what? I already have it! I want a career I love that affords flexibility in my life. Check! I want to be a certified group fitness instructor. Well, let’s sandwich that want, which I don’t have, in between the others that I already do have!
There aren’t enough words to describe how excited I am to fix my relationship with food!

YES YES YES!!!!! This makes my heart so happy!! Your willingness to “go there”, reach out for help, and do the work GUARANTEES success – especially now that you know that you have COMPLETE control over your thoughts, feelings and eventual outcome! 🙂
