Do you have FAITH in your ability to change?

Do you believe that you can stop emotionally eating?

Are you confident that you can lose the weight holding you back?

Do you have faith in God’s promise that you can do ALL things through Christ? That He will provide everything you need?

It’s REALLY important to recognize whether you believe you are capable of change or not.

That doesn’t mean though that you have to be 100% confident in how it will all play out in order to take that first step in faith.

But it DOES mean you have to be tired enough of NOT believing in yourself and WANT to change. That you are willing to trust that your journey will be EXACTLY what it is meant to be. AND that God will walk right beside you – guiding you – if you will listen and believe.

One of my longtime personal training clients was still struggling with her mindset around food and her relationship with herself. I had just designed my C.U.R.E program and we talked about whether she was ready to dive a bit deeper into what was holding her back. She was hesitant at first – and when I asked her why – her answer made me sad. She said “I’ve thought this way for 60 + years, this is just WHO I AM, I can’t change the way I think.”

She was at a crossroads for sure – she could either continue down the path of believing there was no other way for her to change – OR she could take a step in faith and be open to the possibility that her thoughts and actions could be different. And that opening her heart and mind to a new process would allow her to grow in a way that she was somewhat afraid to even consider.

I get the fear. I understand why she was afraid to put herself out there. I understand her hesitancy to committing to digging deeper and showing up in a vulnerable way.

But here’s what I know for sure. God doesn’t fail us. He doesn’t put a desire on our heart and then leave us empty handed.

He has equipped us.

My client decided to have faith in herself and her abilities – she decided to be okay with change and the discomfort that comes from doing new things and thinking in new ways.

And not only has she lost almost 20 lbs – she now understands her relationship with food and honors her body with her decision making.

She no longer uses food as a distraction.

Even after 60+ years of thinking that she HAD to please everyone around her in spite of how it impacted her – she released the belief that she wasn’t important, that everyone else’s needs came before hers, that her thoughts/desires didn’t matter.

She also has learned to let go of the expectations of how others should act in her life and understands that she is in control of how she shows up in life – how she reacts to every day circumstances.

I know we can fall victim to thinking that it’s all about the weight and the food. That we just have no willpower, are addicted to food, and that it’s just not in our DNA to enjoy exercise.

But my experience is that it is much deeper than that.

The food and weight issues manifest in our lives because of other underlying beliefs – some of which we have believed 30, 40, 50+ years.

And it feels like those beliefs are just part of who we are – that we can’t change.

But we can – we just have to step forward in faith – and be willing to believe in a new way.
